The Genomics Day 2010 was marked by the solemn inauguration of the new laboratory building for the Cologne Center for Genomics (CCG) and the Cologne cluster of excellence in aging-associated diseases (CECAD).

The ceremonial keynote address was held by Sydney Brenner, one of the most prolific architects of the modern molecular biology. For his groundbreaking work on genetic regulation of organ development and programmed cell death, in 2002 he received the Nobel Prize in medicine/physiology.
