Birgit Budde, neé Meyer has studied biotechnology at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and completed her studies at the Technische Universität Berlin with a diploma in engineering. Afterwards she worked on her PhD thesis on early genetic changes in benign brain tumors at the Max-Planck-Institute for Molecular Genetics, Berlin and Institute for Medical Genetics of the Charité-Universitätsmedizin, Berlin. After receiving her PhD in biotechnology in 2000, she continued her scientific career as postdoctoral research fellow in the Gene Mapping Center, Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine, Berlin. In 2004, she started to work as a lab manager and custos at the Cologne Center for Genomics (CCG) of the University of Cologne. Since 2023, she has headed the genotyping platform of the CCG.
Birgit Budde works on several projects to identify the genetic cause of inherited disorders like deafness and skeletal disorders by gene mapping and sequencing approaches. She also analyzes genotyping data regarding linkage and structural variants for collaboration projects of the genotyping platform.
